Team KICK OFF

Igesund's plans for the future BafanaX2 (realistic or just a publicity stunt?)

"Bafana Bafana coach Gordon Igesund has hatched a plan to save the junior international players in the country.

According to Igesund, South Africa is shooting itself in the foot by failing to ensure that junior internationals progress to the senior team and that is where he plans to come in: to stop the rot."

“So we must nurture these players. The Under-17, Under-20 and Under-23 coaches will play the same way as the senior team so we can have an identity. So that’s our master plan going forward,” Igesund adds

Do you think there's a plan indeed or just GI talking the talk as usual? i have reservations here and i'm not convinced the plan will work. make no mistake, its not a bad plan at all and he is not the first coach to raise this point. but my reasons for doubting this plan are

1. Who will come up with the style of play he is talking about? him or SAFA or the new Development agency that is said to have a 20 years plan or something like that?

2. Will Shakes Mashaba agree to be dictated to by Gordon if the plan comes from him alone and wants to force them to use it

3. Does this plan exists and who approved it. will GI be even talking about such ambitious plans when he has a 2 year contract?

we need Mellisa Reddy to come and explain as she seem to have clues of what GI is up too.

Mkhulu, the same ICOWsund used to coach PSL teams, did he bother playing this under20's he is talking about? there's only one way to develop a top player and that is to have them playing to flight football week in and week out, anything other than that is just myopic wishes.

Wonder, as I said, I dont like GI but I believe you dont judge him fairly. Does having an under 20 youngster mean you having a quality top fight footballer who fits in your system? You judging this coach based on his displays at club level where resources were limited. You cant expect a coach to play a player just because he's a youngster. Such mentality is killing the quality of our game buddy.

True, like i said, he should play a player because he is capable and not because of his age. i made mention earlier somewhere that IMO, Williams is much better than Sandilands and for him to not be selected because he is a "youngster" is not on. GI is on record as saying he wants to gradually bring Williams into the team because "he is still young", my question then is, what has that got to do with his ability? its GI who said he can not select players based on age and i'm saying that is wrong!

Go home wena...its friday

What difference would my going home make wena son? i can still post and comment from home, i don't just do this because i'm abusing employers resources like you son, ungazobheda la......hehehehheeh

For as long as he does not play them, then it is only a pipe dream.

It's true that it's a human nature to judge people based on their past, no matter what or how circumstance of such past were. History tells me GI never coached a national team where he'd have had a pool of handreds of youngters and senior players to choose from, never mind the quality or absence of such. I therefore reject, in part, the common belief that GI never believed in youger footballers, even his current BB situation will not convince me to the contrary, for he has a seemingly unreasonable mandate of getting us to Brazil.

I dont know if there is plan and i dont think any such plan does exist. If it doest exist, I would have expected such plan to be an output of all round deliberations and discussions that would have involved all SAFA development coaches and their technical teams and SAFA's national development commitee. In that case, Mashaba and others would not need to buy into the plan, as they would have been involved in the construction of that plan.

I dont like this GI dude of a coach, but like everybody else, he should be judged fairly
The sooner the U/23 get active, the better.

hehehehehehe GI wants to prolong his term!!!

He is talking ka 2018....

Every Coach has a plan. Carlos Quiroz had a plan, Carlos Alberto Parreira had a plan even Ted Dimitru had a plan but i dont remember seeing these plans in execution. All of them were good plans if u take your time and go through them but one wonders why they never come to be executed.
